What is the minimum order quantity for private-label cosmetics?

Minimum quantities depend on the product, formula route, fill size and packaging. Tell us the quantity you want for each product and variant, rather than only a total across a collection. A bottle, decoration or custom component may have a different supplier minimum from the filling run. Your written quote should distinguish these requirements; do not assume a quantity quoted for one product applies to every product.

Should I choose an existing formula or develop a custom formula?

An existing formula is a starting point to assess against your brief. Custom development changes the work needed to establish the formulation and its suitability. Tell us the product type, desired texture, fragrance, ingredient preferences and exclusions, plus the intended market. A reference product helps describe the target but is not a promise of an exact copy. Changes to ingredients or claims can require additional technical review, testing and a revised quote.

Question 3

What information is needed for an accurate quotation?

Accepted Answer

Four decisions make a quote useful: the formula route and any changes; who supplies the packaging and the exact container; finishing such as labels, direct print or a box; and quantity per product with destination market. Send the artwork or explain what design work is needed. We use details already supplied in your project. The itemised quote should identify included work and exclusions so an attractive unit price is not mistaken for the entire launch budget.

Can I supply my own packaging or ask you to source it?

Specify which route you want. For your own packaging, provide the supplier, material, capacity, closure, dimensions and available specifications before ordering it for the project. If you want sourcing, send the exact supplier or Alibaba product link and the required size and finish. A photograph alone does not establish availability or compatibility. Container suitability, filling requirements, supplier minimums and any tooling or decoration cost must be confirmed before commitment.

Question 5

Is a packaging mockup the same as approved print-ready artwork?

Accepted Answer

No. A mockup shows the proposed appearance; it does not approve the formula, physical sample, label compliance or production artwork. Confirm whether you need a sticker, direct print, box, display or another finish. The final supplier template, dimensions, artwork requirements and mandatory label information must be checked for the chosen packaging and market. Approve the identified artwork version in writing before printing; a visual approval alone does not release bulk cosmetics production.

Question 6

How do samples, revisions and sample approval work?

Confirm the sample format, included development work, revision allowance, costs and acceptance criteria in the project schedule before paying. Give consolidated written feedback referring to each product and sample version. A failure against an agreed specification is not automatically a paid change of brief. A visual mockup, a deposit or silence is not sample approval. Each affected product stays on hold until the agreed approval or resolution route is completed; the published sample policy explains the process.

Question 7

What documentation is needed to launch cosmetics in the EU?

Accepted Answer

The EU route includes a Responsible Person, safety assessment and Cosmetic Product Safety Report, a Product Information File, compliant labelling, good manufacturing practice and CPNP notification before placing the product on the market. Your project schedule must identify who provides each item and which costs are included. CPNP notification is not EU approval or certification. Requirements and permitted claims depend on the product and market; a quotation for another project does not establish your documentation scope.

How long do development and production take?

The schedule depends on the formula route, sample feedback, testing, packaging availability, artwork approval and the agreed production slot. Ask for separate milestones for development, samples, approvals, manufacturing and dispatch. A target launch date is useful for planning but is not a confirmed delivery promise. Changes to the brief or delayed components can change the sequence; agree a revised schedule before treating an early estimate as a commitment.

Question 9

What must be confirmed before payment and bulk production?

Accepted Answer

Before a deposit request, agree the written scope, itemised costs, payment milestones, sample work and revisions, responsibilities, timing and cancellation or unsuccessful-development treatment. Use the current agreed quotation, not a superseded estimate. Payment does not authorise bulk manufacture: written approval of the identified samples and the agreed production release are separate requirements. Any earlier purchase of dedicated materials needs separate written authorisation. Unresolved scope or approval questions should be answered rather than bypassed with a payment request.

Question 10

Does the quoted price include shipping, tax and all launch costs?

Only items explicitly included in your written quote should be treated as included. Confirm packaging, decoration, development, testing, documentation, freight and any other project charges separately from the unit manufacturing price. Provide the delivery country and address, billing details and relevant tax information. Freight, tax and import responsibilities depend on the agreed destination and terms. Ask for an itemised total before payment rather than relying on a headline price or another customer's example.

Question 11

Will I own the formula or have exclusive rights?

Accepted Answer

Do not assume that commissioning a product, paying for development or using your brand automatically grants formula ownership or exclusivity. The answer depends on the formula route and the written agreement. Explain whether you need confidentiality, exclusive use, ownership or the ability to manufacture elsewhere, and define the products, markets and duration involved. Any rights and limitations must be agreed explicitly before you commit; a general FAQ cannot grant project-specific intellectual-property rights.

Question 12

Can I discuss the project or arrange a factory visit before ordering?

Accepted Answer

Factory visits can be requested by appointment after project qualification; they are not walk-in visits. Share your project reference, objectives and proposed dates so availability and the right participants can be confirmed. Use the discussion to clarify the formula, samples, packaging, documentation and next decisions. Keep the outcome in the written project thread. A call or visit does not replace the quotation, sample approval or production release requirements.
